Education Opportunities

Hello WTU Members!

Below you will find information on Secondary Department Chairperson and Early Childhood Education Grade Level Chairperson Procedures for the 2012-2013 School Year. We encourage you to apply for these open positions.

Overview

DCPS-Human Resources shall post on the Educator Portal a vacancy announcement for Secondary Department Chairpersons and Early Childhood Education Grade Level Chairpersons for the upcoming school year. The announcement shall include copies of the two position descriptions, which shall detail the essential duties/responsibilities and requirements for the positions.

Application

Applicants shall apply online via www.octo.quickbase.com, indicating current school and the content area they wish to apply to. If an applicant has dual certification, the applicant will be permitted to apply only for the Secondary Department Chairperson position or Early Childhood Education Grade Level Chairperson position in the content area in which s/he currently teaches. Once the QuickBase application is complete it will be routed to the Principal or his/her designee.

Appointment

Principals have the discretion to assign Secondary Department Chairpersons and an Early Childhood Education Grade Level Chairperson, as long as a current ET15 employee is appointed to the position. Secondary Department Chairpersons and Early Childhood Education Grade Level Chairpersons shall be appointed to a one-year term beginning on the day after the last day of school for students.

Stipend (Wage)

Middle and Senior High School Department Chairpersons, as well as Grade Level Chairpersons in our Early Childhood Education programs at Title I schools, are eligible to receive the stipend. The stipend is $2,500.00 (gross), which is a fixed amount and not contingent upon the salary that the Secondary Department Chairperson and Early Childhood Education Grade Level Chairperson earn in their primary ET15 position. The stipend is considered a "wage" under IRS regulations and is subject to withholding for taxes and deductions. The stipend is not considered pensionable income and will not be reported as such for retirement purposes.

Payment

The Secondary Department Chairperson and Early Childhood Education Grade Level Chairperson stipend will be paid in two installments after completion of the provision of services. Therefore, the stipend will be paid in the month of January after confirmation of the completion of services for the first semester, and in June after confirmation of the completion of services for the second semester. The Secondary Department Chairperson stipend will be paid in the last regular paycheck of the school year, which does not include summer pay credit.
