FORMER DCPS TEACHER AND GRADUATE OF DC PUBLIC SCHOOLS TAKES ON ROLE AS PRESIDENT OF THE WTU RETIREES CHAPTER
 WTU Action Team #2

WTU Retirees Chapter President, Lesley Aranha, participates in a WTU training event.

The WTU Retirees Chapter has a new president. Lesley Aranha, a native of the District of Columbia,   is a product of DCPS. "To have been chosen to serve as president of the WTU Retiree's Chapter was a honor because this position offers the pleasure of staying in close touch with other retired teachers, as well as, the ability to be active in concert with both the WTU and the American Federation of Teachers (AFT)," stated Aranha. As a youngster, she attended Harrison ES, Banneker JHS, and Dunbar SHS. She is a graduate of Allegheny College in Meadville, PA and holds a Masters Degree in Special Education from George Washington University.  From 1960 until 1993, Aranha taught both regular schools and summer programs to grades Pre-K, 1st, 2nd, 4th, 5th, 7th and 8th in the District's Public Schools in every quadrant of the city.   At retirement in 1993, Aranha desired an extension of her work life that would continue to educate and assist families and individuals to attain their objectives.  As one of the teachers involved in the historic challenge to gain Union representation for teachers in the District of Columbia, the WTU was and is a large part Aranha's life both past and present. "During my two year term, I plan to offer exciting opportunities for WTU Retirees Chapter Members to participate in many enjoyable and rewarding activities," said Aranha. Click here to learn more about the WTU Retirees Chapter.
